What's Happening in Our Room

We started our Farm Unit.  We have had a chicken and a rabbit come in to visit our classroom.  We will having a baby goat visit shortly.  The children really enjoy the real life experiences of the animals coming to visit.

In math we are graphing the weather daily, learning to tell time to the hour, and learning the value of pennies and dimes and starting to add simple addition problems. We are learning sums up to 10.

Sentences are sent home weekly that focus on reading our high frequency words. Please take time each week to read the sentences with your child.  Sign and return the sheets for your child to visit the treasure chest for being responsible for returning homework.

Alphabet Knowledge and Sight Words

Keep reviewing all letters and their sounds and continue to review all sight words that have been sent home.  We have introduced 26 High Frequency words that your child should be able to read and recognize.  Students are tested on these words each quarter.  We added a few more words for the third and fourth quarter.   Students should also be able to write a 3 sentence story by the end of the year.  Any extra practice you can do at home with writing would benefit them greatly.  Listed below are the  High Frequency words that have been introduced.

                                    Changes in Transportation

If you plan to pick up a child who normally rides the bus, or wish for your child to ride a different bus than usual, you must send a written note.  Do not rely on your child to tell me this information.  If no written note is received or phone call, your child will be sent home by his/her usual method of transportation.

Money

Please put all money sent to school in an envelope or baggie and indicate why it is being sent. (Is it for lunch, milk, field trip, etc...) Also include your child's name and mine.

Backpack/Folder

Students need to bring a backpack EVERY DAY.  This will be used to carry books, papers, etc.  Please get into the habit of checking this bag daily.  Please make sure their Take Home Folder is also returned daily in their book bag.
