BOOK ORDERS ARE FRIDAY, MAY 4TH.
********************************************************************* ACCELERATED READER STARTED IN SEPTEMBER AND WILL CONTINUE EACH MONTH THROUGH MAY. EACH FOURTH GRADER NEEDS TO READ AND PASS A COMPUTERIZED QUIZ OVER THE BOOK READ by APRIL 30TH. This is a very achievable, and expected goal for 4th grade readers. Please support your student and help him/her be successful by reading with him/her and asking questions about the story. Some example questions are: Who's your favorite character and why? What do you think will happen in the next chapter? If you divide the number of pages by the number of days in the month and start on the 1st day of the month, most students only have to read 5-10 pages each day!! Your encouragement and support are needed! ##################################################################### SCIENCE We just covered a chapter on Properties of Matter and learned about atoms and molecules which are arranged in different ways depending on the State of Matter, Solid, Liquid or Gas. We are now moving in to the Solid Earth and learning about the Rock Cycle which explains Igneous, Metamorphic, and Sedimentary Rocks. We will also discuss rapid changes such as earthquakes and volcanoes, and slow changes like erosion. We will finish the year by getting outside for a few activities like a Trash Walk in which we will sort, count and record the types of trash found and discuss the natural resources wasted. We will also be looking into what causes our weather and taking air temperature, wind speed, and precipitation readings. ###!################################################################## +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
We are studying our final region of the United States, the West. When this unit is completed we will begin more in depth studies of each state as assigned to each student. We will be researching and writing reports to present with visual aids. In addition to that, we will be creating posters and a sidewalk chalk display educating others about each of the states. |
