They need to take them home each day to be washed.
ACCELERATED READING PROGRAM Congratulations to my students for continually earning points to get Accelerated Reader prizes!! We have been reading books and taking computer comprehension tests for points. Our class has the most A/R points at the Kindergarten level for the months of September, October, November, December, January, February, March, and April!! A big thank you to Mr. John Fechtman (fondly referred to as Mr. John by the children) who comes in and reads to the children every Tuesday afternoon and gives A/R tests on the computer. The children look so forward to him coming. He has been faithfully coming to my class for several years now and is such a big help. He also helps with other activities in the classroom and even attended our field trip with us last year. Every year, the children adore him. He and his wife belong to my church. Another thank you to John Huxtable, (Pastor of my church and Gracie's dad) who comes to our class on Wednesday mornings. He is reading to the children as well and helping with A/R testing or other activities.
We can always use extra help with A/R and other class projects if you have time to help in our classroom!
Thank you for sending back the flowers and the raindrops. The hallway display looks nice. The children love seeing their flowers, raindrops, suns, lions, and lambs on display. They are always proud of their family projects. We hope you have enjoyed doing them this year. Children are working on a farm unit and a community helper unit across all areas of the curriculum. They are really enjoying reading lots of books on these subjects and doing related activities. The visit from the police officer and getting to see inside the squad car was great. We are so excited about our farm trip!! We are continuing to work on addition and subtraction, and are reviewing money, time, graphing, and measurement. The children are working so hard on becoming great readers and writers. They are so proud when they can sound out words, and then work on sounding out sentences. Please encourage your child to read to you at home and practice sounding out words by chopping apart the sounds, then stretching them together like a 'ghost' and finally saying the word quickly. They can explain this process to you!!
SIGHT WORDS!!! *The children are doing a great job learning their sight words. over half of the class already knows them all! Great job! Keep practicing! I will see is we go to it have a and like love the my green black orange pink purple yellow white brown blue she at for here he are said as was play his had *Sight Word Sentences are now coming home. Week #17 will come home May 8. Please make sure you read these sentences with your child and return the front sheet so they can receive a Panther Pride ticket for good work!! ENJOY READING BOOKS WITH YOUR CHILD EVERY DAY!!
******************************** PBIS *Our class will be following the PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention Support) Plan that the district uses. The three rules of PBIS are: Be Safe Be Respectful Be Responsible The classroom has a stoplight display with a parking lot to keep track of student behavior. Green light - Exepcted Behavior Parking Lot - Warning for Needed Improvement Yellow Light - Consequence (Missing part of recess or center time) Red Light - Further Consequences Good Behavior is rewarded with Panther Pride tickets, which are turned in to the office for a weekly drawing, and/or accumulated for classroom and grade level rewards. Please refer to the PBIS packet sent home with your child for a listing of the consequences, the rewards, and a more in-depth explanation of the PBIS program.
Please frequently review school rules with your child and stress that they behave in a safe, respectful, and responsible manner. Thank you!
Please make sure the children get plenty of rest and a good breakfast each day. This will help with making school a positive experince and reduce misbehaviors. Reviewing school rules and talking about your child's day will help them understand the importance of school and following school rules. POSITIVE BEHAVIOR REWARD FOR MAY WILL BE BEACH LUNCH DAY!! No more than 1 yellow slip, and no red slips allowed for participation. ********************************* ***Please remember to check your child's book bag and folder every day for papers, and important notes. Remove anything from the folders and book bag that should stay at home, so their book bags don't get full of unnecessary items. This will help with their organization. Remember, no toys from home unless it is Show and Share Day. Thank you!*** ****************************************************************************************************************
Special Classes P. E. - Every day (children need tennis shoes for this) Music - Monday and Thursday Library and Computer - Friday ****************************************************************************************************************
The children will be bringing home library books weekly. Please remember to return the library books by Friday of each week so that they may check out a new one. I encourage the children to always return the library book to their book bag as soon as it is read so that it won't get misplaced. The children really enjoy checking out books. ************************************************************* SHOW AND SHARE DAY Remember Show and Share day is on Friday each week. Children may bring an item from home to share with the class. Have them practice telling about the item. This is a good introduction to public speaking and becoming at ease with speaking in front of the group. Please do not send overly large items that are cumbersome for the children to handle. Also, pets must be pre-approved and parents must accompany them. Generally, they are viewed outside on our courtyard. ################################################################################ Letters and Sounds Pointing out words in environmental print and asking your child to sound them out is one good way to practice reading. Many children still need lots of practice writing their last names. We are working on writing sentences. We work on starting sentences with capital letters and using punctuation at the end, with finger spaces between the words. We are working toward writing 5 sentences on a topic by the end of the school year. Thank you for all you do to help your child with school at home.
We are working on measurement with standard and non-standard units of measurement, and knowing what comes before or after a number in a sequence. We are working on the value of a penny, nickel, and dime. We are working on counting by 2's, 5's, and 10's, telling time by the hour and half hour, graphing, addition, and subtraction. Practicing writing numbers, recognizing numbers 1 - 20, and counting to 100 by 1's, 2's, 5's, and 10's) are good things to work on at home if you have the opportunity! Students need to count to 100 by the end of the fourth quarter. *The requirement for the fourth quarter is counting to 100. 14 of our students have succeeded in counting to 100! WHEN CHILDREN COUNT TO 100, THEY GET A SPECIAL PIN FROM OUR PRINCIPAL.
