MATH

This year we will be utilizing My Math. Assignments will be given throughout the week (These will be listed in agenda). Students will almost always be given work time in class and should be able to get a good start, and most likely finish, all assignments before coming home. All homework will be submitted online. Workbooks will be sent home for students to write in and reference before submitting electronically.  Guidelines will be listed in the Math Notebook. It is highly encouraged that students practice flashcards each night (or Reflex Math) and this may be assigned on certain days throughout the year.

READING, WRITING, SPELLING

Students will be using the reading curriculum Journeys. All homework will be submitted online. Workbooks will be sent home for students to write in and reference before submitting electronically. If they are absent, students should see the teacher to make up the notes or lessons that were missed. Reading grades will come from notebook assignments, weekly tests, quizzes, projects, and exit slips. They should read at home 30 minutes every night. Spelling lists will be provided weekly. Spelling assignments and tests will be given periodically.

SOCIAL STUDIES/SCIENCE

Students will meet for social studies or science daily. These subjects will be taught flexibly within each quarter. Students will be using Mystery Science, a curriculum that is entirely online. Social studies books will be sent home. All assignments can be accessed and submitted electronically. In 5th grade, students will participate in Hall of Presidents. The event will look much different than it has in previous years. Students will be required to research, write, and memorize information pertaining to their president, first lady, or historical figure.

CLASS PARTICIPATION

The easiest way to show us that you understand is to participate in class! It is important for us to know that you understand or are confused. Don’t be afraid to participate. Making mistakes is all a part of learning!

We can’t wait for a GREAT year together!
