Tell me, I forget.

Show me, I remember.

Involve me, I understand.

Orff Schulwerk is a philosophy of music education developed by the German composer Carl Orff and his colleague Gunild Keetman in the 1920's, 30'¬ôs and 40's. Carl Orff once said, "Children have always loved to play. Why not let them learn as they play?" This methodology actively engages children.

Imitation, exploration, creation, literacy and ownership is the process to Carl Orff's philosophy. The Orff philosophy combines the elements of speech, rhythm, movement, dance, drama and song. At the heart of all this is improvisation - the instinct children have to create their own melodies and to explore their imaginations.

The Orff approach utilizes many different instruments. Among these are xylophones, frame drums and various non-pitched percussion instruments.

Music class is meant to be a joyful experience for the children. Happy children are eager and receptive learners.
