Assignments for weeks of:  March 16-March  30

Teacher Subject Monday Tuesday   Wednesday Thursday Friday
Countryman ELA       Read the short story "Seventh Grade" by Gary Soto.  It is readily available online. Think about how each character tried to make a good first impression and how their attempts backfired on them.  What was their motivation? Keep your writing skills sharp!  Write about a time you tried to make a good first impression.
Did it backfire?  What was your motivation?

Sloman, R Social Studies While we are on this extended break, I would like you to take 60 minutes out of your day and watch the world news.  Don't just think about how the COVID-19 virus is affecting you, but think about the affects that it is having on the world.  Look beyond the health scare issue of it and pay attention to how it is affecting people economically.  Think about other times in history that the world has been affected in these same ways.
Love Health

would like each of you to do is, the following:

Define pandemic:

Throughout history we have seen many pandemics in the history of mankind. I would like you to research one of these and write a description of the pandemic, where and when it occurred, the number of deaths and how long it lasted. Add any additional information you feel is pertinent to your paper. The paper should be at least two paragraphs but no more than 1 page.

Next: I would like each of you to keep a log, each day that we are off, of the number of cases and deaths reported in the U.S.. You should use different resources for your information. News channels, papers, etc. in other words don't just watch one news channel to get your information. Use multiple sources. In addition: it would be a good idea to include other  information that you feel is important and meaningful to you. Example: The governor closed schools for a certain period of time. College students are continuing to go to beaches in Florida for spring break. Toilet paper is hard to find because everyone went out and bought it all. Those type of things.  This is a very strange way to begin our class on health however, it is also a very important learning opportunity. You always hear teachers, parents, grand parents etc. telling you to wash your hands. Now you see why and how important this one simple thing is to protecting your and everyone else's health!

It is important that you know We WILL Get Through This! We all need to do our part in keeping this from spreading any more than it has to. Listen to the news reports and if they tell you stay in, DO IT! Don't think that you are immune! Remain calm but vigilant! And as the Boy Scout Motto says, BE PREPARED!

Hannah Math While we are on quarantine, please continue to practice Multiplication or Division facts.  You may use flashcards, an app, or print worksheets from Math-aids.com.  Log into Reflex and go for a green light each day.  Log into i-Ready and follow MY PATH for math.  We have been working with fractions, so try a recipe.  Recipes use fractions.  Make sure to clean up after trying the recipe!  You can print out worksheets on DadsWorksheets.com for working with fractions.  Keep work that you have done over the quarantine and bring back when we return.  I'll reward you with some candy.
Hannah Reading Please read something EVERYDAY!  A book, a news article or something online can be read.  Read aloud to yourself or someone in your home.  Keep a journal of what you are doing each day.  Be specific and use details.  Remember to capitalize beginning of sentence and use proper punctuation.  Journal entries should have 10 sentences.  Remember to capitalize proper nouns.  Look up words that you don't know.  Log into i-Ready and follow MY PATH  for Reading.  As you read, look for Nouns, Verbs, Adjectives and Adverbs.  Keep a list of each.  Keep work that you have done over the quarantine and bring back when we return.  I'll reward you with some candy.
